Introduction
Our Client, a leader in the Hospitality Industry, has a vacancy available for an Aircon Technician based in Tshwane, Gauteng.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Repair and maintenance of HVAC (Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning) and refrigerant units of the hotel.
- Preventative maintenance, plant operations, repairs and minor modifications to the Air handling units and fixed fans. Reports to the Engineering shift in charge or the Chief Engineer.
- Responds and attends to guest repair requests.
- Communicates with guests or staff to resolve any HVAC maintenance issues.
- Makes periodic rounds to all areas to support equipment and maintains the operating log of conditions observed.
- Maintains records of work done, time records and P/M records through the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
- Updates the work order logbook and informs the Engineering Control Desk of the status of the work done.
- Reads blue prints, works from manufacturer’s operating manuals or applies knowledge of equipment to devise appropriate repairs.
- Visual inspection of tools, equipment or machines.
- Coordinates with the service representative and others as necessary to accomplish installations or repairs.
- Identifies, locates, and operates all shut-off valves for equipment and all utility shut-offs for buildings.
- May instruct personnel in proper use and operation of heating and or air-conditioning equipment, etc.
- May participate in energy use studies, comparison, etc. as requested by the Chief Engineer.
- Make use of the Lockout and or Tag-out system before performing any maintenance tasks.
- Input of air handler schedules and making temperature changes using the relevant system.
- Tests, troubleshoots and performs basic repair on all types of equipment, as well as plumbing, electrical components, vacuum cleaners, internet devices, replacement of electrical switches and bulbs, and other guest room items.
- Plans, recommends, and carries out an approved program on scheduled maintenance.
- Performs preventative maintenance for all HVAC units and refrigerators.
- Recharges a variety of air-conditioning and refrigeration systems by selecting the appropriate refrigerant.
- Maintains maintenance inventory and requisition parts and supplies as needed.
- Implements energy conservation techniques on HVAC systems.
- Captures work-related information on the relevant system.
- Communicates daily activities and issues that occur to the other shifts using approved Hotel communication programs and standards.
- Perform other reasonable duties as requested.

Desired Experience & Qualification
- Grade 12 (Twelve) certificate (essential).
- Woodwork and Technical Drawing (desirable).
- Trade Test (desirable).
- Minimum of 2 (Two) years of experience as a Maintenance Assistant is essential.
- Minimum of 1 (One) year of experience in a Hotel environment is desirable.
- Basic computer skills.
- Working knowledge of and skilled in: Plumbing, Electrical, Painting, Carpentry and General Handyman.
- Knowledgeable in methods to do advanced troubleshooting of refrigerant system, control system and skilled in reclaiming refrigerant, and ensuring that the necessary regulatory paperwork is completed.
- Knowledgeable in sheet metal, AC duct fabrication and assembly.
- Working knowledge of various Building Automation Systems (BAS).
- Bilingual with good communication skills.
- Guest-oriented: Meeting and exceeding guest requirements.
