Introduction
Our Client, a leader in the Cold Chain Industry, has a vacancy for a Checker based in Cato Ridge. The candidate must reside in the Cato Ridge area.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Customer-oriented.
- Loading of vehicles for deliveries.
- Load planning in terms of drop sequence loading.
- Pre-loading checking of stock against the order for accuracy.
- Safe and stock-friendly palletizing and securing of loads prior to loading.
- Checking and ensuring all promotional stock is loaded for distribution.
- Managing the team.
- General administration and filling.
- Liaising with customers and suppliers, and effectively resolving queries.
- Miscellaneous functionality i.e., taking part in cyclical and monthly stock counts, etc.
- Ensuring that the products are carefully checked so that one can be sure that consignments are correct.
- Identifying consignments and ensuring accessibility thereof.
- Ensuring consignments are loaded onto the correct vehicles.
- Effective and efficient loading times to be maintained.
- Reducing the idle and unproductive time of all equipment and personnel.
- Ensuring space utilization when stacking pallets, without influencing stock integrity.
- Ensuring satisfactory weight distribution when loading vehicles, to prevent traffic fines.
- Ensuring that products are in a satisfactory condition – no damaged products are to be loaded.
- Overseeing of forklift drivers and taking disciplinary action, if necessary.
- Avoiding security risks while loading and offloading – proper supervision to be applied.
- Ensure proper day-to-day use of the equipment and general housekeeping.
- Immediate reporting of any discrepancies to the relevant supervisor.
- Accurate execution of all relevant QA and administration duties.
- Ensuring that no vehicle moves out of the dock before the loading and offloading process is complete and the dock level is lowered. Only once the dock level is horizontal, the bay door may be closed.
- Assisting in stock-taking and control.
- Immediate reporting and follow-up of all non-conformities.
Receipt of product:
- Checking the product, expiry dates, grades, and weights before receiving any stock from production.
- Ensuring that the tally slips and pre-advices balance with the total stock received for the shift.
- All tally slips to be signed off after receipt.
- CHEP pallets are to be utilised.
- The standard number of cases per pallet must be adhered to.
- The “one-product-one-pallet” principle applies.
- All pallets to be properly stretch-wrapped.
- Weight, grade, and manufacturing date must be recorded as per procedure (tally slips and pre-advices).
- A pallet label must be obtained and attached to every pallet.
- Pallets must be stored according to the rack allocation.
- Temperature and quality checks for all inbound loads to be recorded and any deviations must be reported to the Warehouse Controller immediately.
- NCA to be completed for all outages.
Dispatching of product:
- Ensuring that you receive a copy of the release note and picking slip before drawing the product from the store.
- The recording of the weight of the product being dispatched, if so instructed by the Supervisor.
- Physically checking the product being released against the release note before it is loaded for dispatching.
- Ensuring that customers are not unduly kept waiting to receive the product.
- Checking the releases against the picking slips before the Clerk signs.
- Affixing of seals to trucks and or containers that need sealing as instructed by the Supervisor and or Checker.
- Ensure that no sub-standard pallets or stock is dispatched to customers.
Returns of product:
- Ensuring that all product returned to the store is weighed, where applicable, and recorded in the returns book.
- Ensure that all product returns, are properly boxed and sealed.
- Ensuring that a pallet sticker is obtained from the Administrative Clerk and affixed to the product, and that the product is palletised and stationed at the pallet station before the end of the shift.
- No returns under 200kg, where applicable.
GMP, Housekeeping, and Good Manufacturing Conditions
- Adhere to GMP, Good Manufacturing Health and Safety Policies and Procedures, and all Food Safety and HACCP requirements.
- Checking and reporting that there are no unsafe acts, conditions, or equipment.
- Correct and effective use and care of all personal protective equipment (PPE) issued.
Housekeeping
- Ensuring that the floor area is always clean and tidy.
- Ensure rubbish is removed daily.
- Ensure the area allocated is always clean and tidy.
- Assisting in maintaining housekeeping standards.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Grade 12 (Matric) certificate.
- Minimum 3 (Three) to 5 (Five) years of experience in a similar role.
- Numeracy and analytical ability.
- Detail-oriented.
- Computer Literate (MS Office).
- Good communication skills.
- Work well under pressure.
- Self-motivated.
