Parliament has passed the COIDA Amendment Bill. This Bill will require employers to review their Incapacity due to ill health procedures to avoid being found guilty of unfair dismissal and contraventions of the COIDA Amendment Bill. It will now be mandatory for employers to rehabilitate and re-integrate employees who acquire occupational diseases or injuries before dismissing them. This will be done in part via applications for funding from COIDA as part of the process.
Other amendments include:
- Domestic workers are covered by COIDA.
- Road-related injuries or deaths are addressed via the RAF and not (COIDA) to avoid double-dipping
- Dependents of up to 25 (Twenty five) years of age can qualify for payments.
